Windows XP hits the scene
Microsoft's new operating system has been released onto the waiting public and it is, finally, a large step in the right direction. Having had the chance to peruse it personally last night, I must report that the aesthetic improvements are superb. The interface is colourful and extremely slick, and all the improvements beneath the hood that I couldn't test out are undoubtedly some good work. Good news for us all.

New domain extensions available
Before not so long ago you were confined to the suffixes .com, .net and .org to end your domain name. Since then, the market has been opened up considerably by the addition of more than a dozen new address endings that may better suit the nature of your site. Choose from things like .info, .family and .biz. Ace.

Amazon announce first ever profit
Incredibly, the Internet's most famous online store has only this month made its first profit. Amazon launched a few years ago and was the first big site to ride the crest of the e-commerce boom, and continues to lead today, selling all sorts of stuff. Nice to see them doing well.

The Internet Archive and WayBack Machine
The Internet Archive is a site that is creating a digital library by archiving as much of the web as it can, and making special collections of pages to highlight certain world events. These digital artefacts are available to anyone who wants to read through them. They also have a quite marvellous system they call the WayBack Machine. AOL adopts Netscape, drops IE
AOL, one of the most popular Internet service providers in the world, announced that henceforth their service will be powered by » Netscape Navigator 6, and they have stopped delivering Internet Explorer to their customers.
