Freewebs

If you’re looking for some free space, I would recommend you sign up at Freewebs. They’ll give you 40mb of space, which is more than enough, and will manage other aspects of your site like photo galleries too.

FreeServers

FreeServers are the company who used to host HTMLSource, and had done so for a few months. I chose them primarily because of their excellent pseudo-domain names. 'www.htmlsource.8k.com' is about as close to owning a proper domain name as you'll ever get without paying for it. They offer domain name buying and paid hosting services too.
The ad banner at the top of the page is very annoying. With their recent re-design, they have improved it and added some customisation options which were much needed. You can opt for a pop-up ad instead if you want. The fact that it is big and slow can't be avoided though. It adds a couple of seconds to your load time, so if you care about that (and if not, why not?), watch out.
FreeServers offer a number of utilities, like a counter, guestbook, search engine submission etc. You can also read your server logs and sift through a suite of site statistics, which are helpful if you want to check on people reading your site. These are restricted depending on whether you've paid anything for your hosting.
They're constantly trying to steer you towards buying their 'proffessional package', or whatever, which is very annoying. Overall, I think they're ok, but they could sharpen up and stop trying to sell me something at every turn.
